Children

“Let your curiosity soar and your imaginations take flight at the library!”

A Note From Miss Molly

Our goal in the Children’s Library is to provide a fun, entertaining environment where children can let their curiosity soar, and their imagination take flight!

We designed our children’s area to be bright and colorful to welcome kids of all ages to explore the joy of reading and learning.

A wide variety of books are available downstairs for all reading levels including:

*Easy readers for those just beginning to read
*Picture books
*Junior Fiction/Non-fiction
*Children’s Magazines
*Books on CD

Plus activity based learning and fun, like
*Board Games
*AWE Computer station
*Chalkboard drawing

Young Adult books are located upstairs.

AWE Children’s Computer

Our AWE Children’s computer is a standalone computer with touch screen capability that allows kids to play educational games, search a built in encyclopedia, and do other school and educational activities. This computer is ideal for young children; they can play with built in programs for their age without having to manipulate a keyboard and mouse.

Throughout the year a number of special programs and events are held in the Children’s Library, including:

Summer Reading Program

Every summer we invite all children from Pre-K to High School the opportunity to get prizes by reading as much as they can. Throughout the summer we have an activity happening every day of the week, including special guests, crafts, games and more.

Beginning with the 202 Reading Program we began using Reader Zone to track Summer Reading.  Reader Zone is a free app downloadable on any smart phone. Paper copies are still available by request. There are two counting methods, by book (0-5) and by minutes. Ages 0-5 count by the book. Kindergarten-12th grade count by minutes.  Reading groups are divided into the following age groups:

  • Read to Me (0-5)
  • Kindergarten-3rd grade
  • 4th grade-8th grade
  • 9th grade-12th grade

*Everyone sets their own small goals, for example five books or 500 minutes on their quest to read more than any other child in the program.

After School Program

For the months of school, we host an after school program with monthly themes. Each child is given a half hour to finish homework and eat their snack, then we move on to the day’s activities. The After School Program is finished by 5pm and all children should be picked up from the library by that time.  Programs are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Story Time

We invite children of all ages to join us each Friday as we share one of our favorite story books, snacks, crafts, and games. See our Facebook page or calendar of events for each weeks theme.
